the wanderings my mind takes

Soaping

I had fun today!

Well, maybe not all day. First there was the lack of sleep, doldrums and then the gotta clean the remnants of yesterday’s canfest. (The peach jam turned out great!)

But, hubby had to leave early this morning to work in Findley. That meant no pressure to run the day by a schedule. So, I spent a good bit of time following interesting pins on Pinterest. I didn’t worry about making food until son 1 came in – late afternoon. I wasn’t hunger, so why bother?

To be totally honest, I didn’t clean much today. I had already cleaned the mess from canning, last night. It was more relocating the cooled jars and labeling them. I did need to wash out the giant pot I use for water bath. For some reason, you get this residue cooked to the bottom where the jars sit during processing. I always have to scrub it out with Barkeeper’s Friend. That is the only thing I can get to work on it.

Blah, blah, blah, the day went on. Son #1 wanted fish but we didn’t want to go out to eat. I found fish sticks and we ate fish and fries – easy peasy. We didn’t even eat a veggie. We are so BAD!

While I was in the kitchen, I thought, ‘Why not start a batch of soap? It won’t take long.’ And so, I made what I am calling Dirty Boy Soap. I tried to make it denim blue with brown swirls and I grated a bar of coffee soap for the dirt sprinkled on top. I hope it looks good. I know what I want the soaps to do, but can’t always make it happen.

This soap will smell like dirt! I had ordered the scent to make hubby hunting soap. After I ordered it, he said he had to use his SPECIAL hunting soap! What a butthead. Fine by me. I will add it to the stuff I want to put up for sale.

I am having a hard time getting enough to make a good showing for sale. It seems to disappear. I could have sworn I had like 15 bars of bacon soap but today there was 13.

Jeez, I talk alot! Good thing no one is reading. 😉

I have been trying to get hubby to build me a soap cutter for 6 months. I got fed up and went to Lowe’s going to build my own. That didn’t work out. They don’t have what I need. So, I was back to waiting on him.

A couple of days ago, I was watching a bunch of how to’s online for soap making and one person pulled out a cheese cutter to slice her soap. DUH! I went to Amazon and ordered one. Even found a little multi-slicer to use for cutting samples.

Works great! Got them today and played and played.
